FALL ROWING PROGRAMS      HIGH PERFORMANCE GROUP

HIGH PERFORMANCE GROUP

The Resilient Rowing High Performance Group will be comprised of rowers and coxswains, with at least one season of racing experience, that are ready to take their rowing to the next level. Athletes at this level should be looking to not only improve their fundamental rowing skills but also be ready to represent the Resilient Rowing Club High Performance Group at local and non-local regattas. Members of this team will train and compete in both sweep and sculling boats; with the goal of racing in multiple boat classes at each regatta attended.

Athletes that are selected for the RRC High Performance Group will be evaluated by at least two coaches during the Program Placemet Period. The rower evaluation process will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to: 20min (girls) or 4K (boys) score, 2K Score, Weight Factor / Power-to-Weight Ratio, Peak Power /   1-min Watt Tests, overall fitness, technical aptitude / boat moving ability, and coachability. The coxswain evaluation process will include a variety of factors including: overall command of the crew, mastery of fundamental boat moving skills, ability to properly facilitate drills and workouts, and consideration of previous race results with review of audio/video recordings.

While registration is not capped for the Fall High Performance Group, RRC typically travels with the top 16 rowers and top 3-4 coxswains (boys and girls teams respectively). If we have more or less qualified, dedicated athletes who are ready to compete at this level, then we will adjust the travel team accordingly. Members of this team will race in two local 5K head races: Occoquan Challenge, Occoquan Chase, and then will travel to the Head of the Charles (with select boats only), and the Head of the Hooch. Any rower or coxswain that does not make the Fall Competitive Team will be transitioned onto the Developmental Team to continue their long-term development.
